Technical Details

Counting Logic

Words are typically delimited by spaces, newlines, and punctuation. Our algorithm filters out empty strings that can occur from multiple spaces to ensure an accurate count.

Reading Time

Calculated based on the average reading speed of an adult, which is approximately **225 words per minute** (wpm). Speaking time is calculated at a slower rate, typically **130 wpm**.

Character Byte Size

In modern UTF-8 encoding, a character isn't always 1 byte. Standard ASCII characters (A-Z) are 1 byte, but emojis and some symbols can be up to 4 bytes. This distinction is crucial for database storage limits.
